Check out these ill photos taken of us after our show at Blue Heron Lake in New York. The concert was hosted by the WILD honey pie and turned out really sick. Such a great time! I believe Drone will be posting video of the event as well as some clips of us by the bonfire after the show. [READ ON]

FREE ENERGY’S STUCK TO NOTHING

With their debut album, Free Energy has created an album that seems like the perfect spring/summer album. It just makes you want to roll down the windows, open the sunroof, and go on a road trip. This breakthrough album from the foursome hailing from Philly is truly a feel good album that makes it hard to resist bobbing your head.
THE ARMS AKIMBO
More free music! Yay! Of course, I got the permission of the band first before posting their stuff. It’s a personal ethics thing for me. Anyways, The Arms Akimbo is a band of fire from the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul). Set to release their debut album in October of 2010, they’ve been gaining notoriety for their vicious indie jams. While many have compared them to The Strokes and The Libertines, I will respectfully disagree. [READ ON]
A RANT ON HIP HOP
I have been listening to various forms of hip-hop/rap music since I was in the fourth or fifth grade (so roughly 12 years or so?). Over the years the genre as a whole has had, as all genres do, an ebb and flow in the level of quality produced by the artists that stand within its domain. What is different about rap is the depths to which the quality has dropped – at times reaching incredibly depressing lows defined by mediocre musicians, senseless lyrics celebrating lifestyles that the artists did not and have not ever actually attained, as well as a loss in the quality of the most basic element in hip-hop – the beat.
SOMEWHAT MUSIC RELATED
I dare you to watch this entire video without either laughing or grimacing. Wow, is this shit legal? Sorry for posting this folks, but you need to be aware! Yes, this is VERY distasteful. And no, I am not racist! [READ ON]
THE NATIONAL
Is Ohio considered Mid-West? …fuck it, either way, Ohioans you have reason to rejoice! The National just belted out a new single from their upcoming album, High Violet, titled Blood Buzz Ohio. This happened to be one of the songs the band tested out while on their recent tour. Now, I’m from Illinois and I don’t have the slightest clue as to what goes down in Ohio but if The National aren’t fibbing us, your next trip to Ohio might be your last… in a good way! High Violet is due out May 11. [READ ON]
LAURA MARLING’S I SPEAK BECAUSE I CAN
I can clearly remember the first time I heard Laura Marling. It was fall 2007, and I was just chilling on an antique brass bed in the home section of Anthropologie, when I heard a soft and delicate voice sing, “He wants to die in a lake in Geneva, the mountains can cover the shape of his nose.” [READ ON]
THE FOOT.
There’s a new trio making their appearance in the music scene, The Foot. Based in Denver, The Foot. claims to be a culmination of a variety of bands such as Led Zeppelin and Muse. Boasting versatility, their debut album, Primary Colors, gives off exactly that kind of vibe.
SHE & HIM’S VOLUME TWO
Well folks, She & Him’s Volume Two made it’s way to us this past Tuesday. Before I continue, I’ll just state that I’m completely biased, won-over, musically infatuated, girl-crushing, and will never have a bad opinion for She & Him. M. Ward is a very talented man, whether solo, with Monsters of Folk, or with the lovely younger Deschanel. But really, She & Him is mainly about her. As a (shocking, I know) huge fan of Zooey Deschanel, from her Christmas crooning in Elf to the wonderfully oddball Kat on Weeds, the karaoke videos online, or studio album releases, to me she can do no wrong. Now that my short love letter’s complete, I’ll carry on.
After releasing the track “Thieves”, and delivering a completely adorable (sorry, can’t help it) video for “In The Sun”, the album first streamed on NPR a week early, giving everyone a small [READ ON]
THOMPSON DAVIS
I’ve been trying to feature a lot more unheard of acts recently in an attempt to set our site apart for the rest of the junk out there. If you have a band, no matter how small, send us an email at [email protected] and let us know a little bit about yourselves. Also include a couple pictures and MP3s as well. This next artist we’re featuring is Thompson Davis of New York. He’s got a couple different musical projects going on right now, and both have a lot of pop appeal. He’s also a cool dude that’s really passionate about music. Check out these Mp3s, and let me know what you think! [READ ON]
