TAKEN BY TREES AT RELENTLESS GARAGE

1272 days ago by Eric Weiner

On my last Monday in London (for the time being), I had a very spiritual experience. I went to see Taken by Trees at the Relentless Garage, and was treated to an absolutely amazing show. Out of Sweden, this is an artist that is highly influenced by Middle Eastern music. There is a very logical reason for this, however. Her most recent album, East of Eden, was recorded in Pakistan, allowing her to experience the harsh realities of life in the Middle East first hand. [READ ON]

MIIKE SNOW’S DEBUT LP [BEST OF 2009]

1275 days ago by Eric Weiner

So we finally made it! Here is the #1 album (in my opinion) of 2009! This record is a remarkable example of what happens when you get three creative people in a room, and let them work their magic. This particular team of artists is quite uncommon. Two of them are from Sweden, while the final member is from the United States. These same two members previously produced hits for Madonna, Kylie Manogue, and Britney Spears. Any idea who I’m talking about? [READ ON]

STRICKEN CITY

1276 days ago by Eric Weiner

Here’s a band, Stricken City, who’s managed by my co-worker. I’ve been listening to their stuff, and really enjoy it. They have a great sound, both popy and unorthodox at the same time. The cowbell on “Pull The House Down” really does it for me! [READ ON]

WHY?’S ESKIMO SNOW [BEST OF 2009]

1277 days ago by Eric Weiner

Here we are with the final two albums nominated for my favorite record of the year. It’s been nearly impossible to weed out the AMAZING albums from the good, but I think I have done a good done selecting a unique and accurate list of albums. This next choice is one that didn’t find itself atop most top 10 lists this year, and I think it’s an absolute shame. Take notice of this band people! [READ ON]

FUN. [INTERVIEW]

1278 days ago by Eric Weiner

I feel EXTREMELY fortunate to be able to say that Nate Ruess, lead singer of fun. and former member of The Format recently answered a few questions for us. As I try to do with all my interviews, I have asked slightly odd things that you won’t find in Rolling Stone or NME. Here’s the interview. [READ ON]

BOUGHT A BRIDE BY BRAND NEW

1279 days ago by Eric Weiner

No, no. I didn’t buy a bride! That’s f*cking ridiculous. The title of this post is referring to a song from the artist Brand New, off their most recent album, Daisy. You probably don’t remember, but I gave it a pretty harsh rating when I first started listening to it earlier this fall.
Though my mind hasn’t completely changed, I have given it a fair chance to sink in and I have to say that I kind of like it now. It will never compare to Brand New’s other albums, but there is an admirable depth to the album that should be appreciated. Here is a video that a reader pointed me to (thanks Ammie) that could definitely have been on one of the band’s earlier records. Enjoy this amazing version!

PHOENIX’S WOLFGANG AMADEUS PHOENIX [BEST OF 2009]

1280 days ago by Eric Weiner

Here’s an album that took the indie nation by the balls, and turned a mythological bird into a household name (well, maybe only in houses with a big indie rock fan). Though I have liked their music since my sophomore year of college, this album really escalated by fandom. Diehards and mainstreamers alike both praised this album for its catchiness and depth. HORSE FEATHERS AT HOXTON SQUARE BAR

1280 days ago by Eric Weiner

Last week I saw Horse Feathers at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen in London. The place is a great venus for small gigs, offering a very intimate setting for quieter music (though it’d be great for any genre). [READ ON]
